Afterlife is an afterlife. None of the Living really knows what it looks like and whether it exists or not. The interpretation of afterlife itself is broad, but if it really exists I want my afterlife to be peaceful, quiet and full of happiness. But, other than that, this painting is not simply about ‘afterlife’ in literal meaning, but also about the Life itself.
‘The Entity’ is about hope, about beliefs, about the life itself; as a part of our existence. It was based on the culture that I’ve been growing up with and an idea that came unexpectedly in most unexpected time. It was also made to ‘comfort’ people who see it, just like how I was being comforted while creating the piece.
Rather than dragons, how about a goldfish spirit guarding a holy place on the top of a mountain? I wanted to share not only its beauty but also its life as a form of hope (in symbolic way), something precious that we should be thankful for.
Village is heavily inspired by the beauty of Japanese architecture. Made to provide comfort by the picture of a peaceful place for those who need to rest a bit.
It has always been my dream to be able to visit or even to live in a quiet, peaceful place in the middle of a place surrounded by forest, far from the sounds of big cities. One of the settings that I have imagined is a village, one winter night in which everything feels so serene and so peaceful. I made this while hoping that people who see Village will also feel the same serene feeling and be comforted a bit by it. I aspire to make my art heals in one way or another, so I also tried my best with this one.
